The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, held a bilateral meeting with the President of the World Road Association (PIARC) Nazir Ali within the framework of the World Road Congress.

Within the framework of the Congress, the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure became a member of the World Road Association.

The parties of the meeting talked about the development and progress of the international highways passing through Georgia. The minister introduced the country's short-term and long-term plans for the development of road infrastructure to the president of the association and the ongoing projects in accordance with these plans, which Nazir Ali gave high praise.

The parties of the meeting noted the importance of joining the World Road Association (PIARC) of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. Also, opportunities to activate relations between the department and the association.

"The 27th World Road Congress is going on very interestingly, within the framework of which we heard reports from many directions. It should be noted that today we had a very productive meeting with the president of the World Road Association, within the framework of which Georgia has already become a member of this association. The association has a history of more than 100 years and during this period has made a very important contribution to the development of road technology, engineering and many other road directions. From today, Georgia, which will be represented in the form of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, will actively intervene in the work of the association's committees and various directions," said Irakli Karseladze.

"Today, we became the 126th member of the World Road Association, which will give us new opportunities to share the experience of different countries and to implement in our country in terms of road infrastructure development" - noted Giorgi Tsereteli, chairman of the Roads Department of Georgia.

The meeting was attended by Giorgi Tsereteli, the chairman of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, and his deputy, Salome Tsurtsumia.

Organized by the World Road Association (PIARC), the first World Road Congress was held in Paris in 1908. The World Road Congress is held every four years in a member country. The purpose of the meetings is to share world experience in the field of road infrastructure and road transport. The head of the associate - Nazir Ali, meanwhile, is a World Bank consultant with 40 years of experience in the public and private sector. He was the founder, CEO of the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), is a recognized leader in Public Private Partnership (PPPS) development of small and micro enterprises, and an international consultant on transport systems, infrastructure policy and road development.
