The rehabilitation of the first 13.5 km section of the 72 km Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road is underway within the framework of the road traffic safety improvement project

The Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road traffic safety improvement project envisages the restoration of the road profile, the arrangement of water-carrying, water-bearing and artificial structures, the complete restoration of technical means of traffic regulation, the widening of the vacant land, within the limits of the possibility, and the arrangement of bumpy barriers to ensure traffic safety.

Tusheti road project is divided into 8 sections. The agreement has already been signed on 5 projects, which includes works to improve the traffic conditions of the 39 km section of the road, and its total value is 43.6 million GEL. On the remaining 43.6 km, which consists of 3 sections, the works will start gradually. At this stage, the tender for one section has been announced, and for 2, it will be announced in the next few days.

Asphalt and concrete paving is being done on the first section of the Pshaveli-Omalo road. Depending on the terrain, the pavement of the remaining sections will remain unpaved, the damaged areas of the road will be restored and the existing parameters will be improved.

The only access road to Tusheti is the Pshaveli-Omalo road, which starts from the village of Pshaveli in the Telavi municipality and connects to Omalo through the Abano pass. The Tusheti road, built in the 60s and 70s of the last century, passes through the Abano Pass, which is located at 2950 meters above sea level. Due to the difficult terrain and meteorological conditions, traffic on the road is possible for about 4-5 months of the year.

The road safety improvement project of the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road will be completed gradually in 2025. The total indicative cost of the project is 100 million GEL.
