The construction of the high-speed road in the direction of Kakheti continues actively. The most important section, 35 km long, goes from Tbilisi to Sagarejo.

The construction of the 35 km Tbilisi-Sagarejo road is divided into 3 sections: Vaziani bypass road, Vaziani-Sagarejo section and Sagarejo bypass road. The construction of Vaziani bypass road is planned to be completed in 2023, and the remaining two sections - in 2024. Intensive works are underway on all three sections. At this stage, piers, foundation layer, railway overpasses, artificial structures are being prepared and bridge girders are being constructed.

The project envisages the construction of a 4-lane cement-concrete expressway equipped with an external lighting system, which, in compliance with international road safety norms, will allow us to move at 110 km per hour.

The Tbilisi-Sagarejo section is part of the main road connecting Tbilisi with Kakheti and also the transit corridor connecting it with the North-West region of Azerbaijan. The existing road passes through densely populated villages and towns - Vaziani, Sartichala, Ninotsminda and Sagarejo. The new road will completely decongest traffic in populated areas, which will improve traffic safety standards and reduce travel time.

The project is financed from the state budget and its total cost is 527,169,937 GEL.

Also, works are being carried out on the Bakurtsikhe-Tsnori bypass, on the 16.6 km long road. The road will bypass densely populated Tsnori and 6 nearby villages. The project is supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and its cost is 87.8 million GEL.
