"The construction of sections I and IV of the Samtredia-Grigoleti main road project is in the final stage. On the 4th section, in fact, all the main works have been completed, including the pavement, where we plan to open the traffic by the end of the year. The works on the first section are also being carried out at a high pace, however, the main challenge remains the bridge under construction over the Rioni River. A large part of the piers of the bridge has been removed and prepared for further works. The contractor, with the involvement of the Roads Department, is trying his best to solve the challenge on time and to continue the subsequent works with a high quality," said the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, after getting acquainted with the ongoing works on the sections of the Samtredia-Grigoleti road.

On the fourth, 9.5 km section of Samtredia-Grigoleti, the construction of 2 bridges, 1 traffic junction, reinforced concrete underground passage and water pipe has already been completed. In the near future, the works of setting up the outdoor lighting system will also begin. This section of the road passes through the territory of Lanchkhuti municipality, north of Khazhalia and Akhalsofli villages, crosses a certain part of Sufsa village and joins the existing Samtredia-Lanchkhuti-Grigoleti road. The project is supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and its value is 113 million GEL. By the end of the year, traffic on this section of the road will be opened.

Works are actively continuing on the first 11.5 km section of Samtredia-Grigoleti, which will pass through the city of Samtredia and 4 villages of Samtredia and Abashi municipalities (Tolebi, Gormaghala, First May, Gautsinari). The works are financed by 73 million GEL from the state budget.

"On the whole, we can safely say that after the completion of the first section, we will have an 86-km 4-lane main road from Argveta Junction to Lanchkhuti. Traffic will be opened for 10 km of the 4th section. The works on the remaining sections will continue at a high pace, despite the challenges," said Irakli Karseladze.

The Samtredia-Grigoleti main road is a component of the East-West E60 high-speed highway, where the construction of a 4-lane asphalt-concrete road is underway.
