Statement of the Roads Department of Georgia

Despite the fact that we had to issue statements regarding the false information spread by the stories of "Telecompaniya First" more than once, yesterday's case exceeded all expectations.

In the story, which was prepared in connection with the protest held by the residents of the village of Sviana-Rostiani, the journalist did not use the written explanation provided by the Public Relations Service of the Roads Department and instead distributed the modeled comment of the employee of the department.

Modeling was manifested in the fact that the captions of another person's telephone comment indicated the name, surname and position of an employee of the Roads Department. Moreover, a photograph of the employee was also used.

We cannot really consider this case as a mistake, since the journalist had a direct telephone communication with an employee of the Roads Department, who did not give him a comment on this matter and asked him to contact the Public Relations Service. After the story was published, the journalist again contacted the employee of the department and claimed that the past comment really belonged to him, however, he offered to remove it from the story when the story was already in the main broadcast of the TV company.

It is clear that the use of the information provided by the department would have lost the desired intensity of the story, but such a gross violation of the journalistic standard is an extreme disrespect of the audience and the public.

However, we would like to provide the public with the information that was not used in the preparation of the story.

Within the framework of the Kvesheti-Kobi project, the representatives of the Roads Department held a number of meetings and consultations with the villagers of Sviana-Rostiani. Heard all their problems regarding the damaged dwellings. Before the start of the construction, an examination was conducted, which determined that the houses were damaged in the same way and the construction of the road had nothing to do with it. Moreover, the village of Sviana-Rostiani is located 200 meters away from the road under construction. The Roads Department offered the population several alternatives to solve the problem, but no agreement could be reached at this stage. Communication with the population continues and will continue until the final agreement.
