The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is actively continuing the reconstruction of the Khulo-Zarzma section on the Batumi (Angisa) - Akhaltsikhi international road. The rehabilitation section starts from Khulo township, passes through Goderdzi pass and reaches Zarzma village of Adigeni.

At this stage, the asphalt-concrete paving of the road, as well as the construction of bridges and other artificial structures, are actively underway. As part of the project, a 2-lane asphalt-concrete pavement will be laid on the Khulo-Zarzma section.

The project is divided into 2 sections and in total, rehabilitation-reconstruction is carried out along a 42-kilometer road. The first section is financed by the Kuwait Foundation, and the second section by the state budget. The total cost of the works is 95,689,302 GEL.

The renovated Khulo-Zarzma road will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions in the shortest way. The road passes through a difficult geological terrain, and its rehabilitation and reconstruction will contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation of the population of Zemo Adjara and Samtskhe-Javakheti, as well as the development of tourism, as it connects the Beshum mountain-ski resort with Batumi and Tbilisi.

As a result of rehabilitation-reconstruction of the road, traffic safety will be significantly improved. In addition, with the updated route, the travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe will be reduced by 1.5 hours.
