Construction works of 15.5km section (Bakurtsikhe–Gurjaani) of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe road are under completion.

At this stage, works at 13 km section are completed, while earthworks, arrangement of bridge crossings, artificial structures and base of asphalt-concrete pavement are underway at the remaining 2.5 km long section. Opening of this section to traffic is planned for the second half of June.

Gurjaani-Bakurtsikhe bypass road will connect Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe secondary road with Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi international road. Vehicles moving in the direction of Gurjaani-Bakurtsikhe will no longer have to pass through the city of Gurjaani and the villages of Gurjaani municipality: Bakurtsikhe, Kolagi, Dzirkoki, Chandari, Vejini and Chumlaki.

This section completely extends beyond the territory of Gurjaani city and the traffic flows that used to move through the territory of Gurjaani will be shifted to Gurjaani bypass road and this will be ecologically important for Gurjaani municipality as well as for the local population.

The project is being carried out with the financial support of the World Bank within the Third Secondary and Local Roads Project (SLRPIII)  and its cost is GEL 38 000 000.

After the completion of the project, the quality of safety at 15.5 km long Gurjaani bypass section of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe road will be improved and travel time and costs will be significantly reduced.
