Reconstruction of Khulo-Zarzma section is underway

Reconstruction of about 5km Khulo-Zarzma section of Batumi (Angisa) – Akhaltsikhe secondary road is actively progressing. The mentioned section passes through populated area and its reconstruction is of the utmost importance to the local population. At this stage, arrangement of structures is underway. 

Batumi (Angisa) – Akhaltsikhe road is divided into 3 sections and overall, 47 km of road and seven bridges will be rehabilitated. Two-lane asphalt-concrete road will be paved. Reconstruction of about 5 km section is financed by the state budget and its value is GEL 14.6 MIO, while the reconstruction of 42km section is still funded by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, whereon preparatory works have already commenced.

Khulo-Zarzma road will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions with the shortest route. The section to be rehabilitated starts from borough Khulo, runs through Goderdzi pass and ends at Zarzma village of Adigeni. An upgraded road will reduce travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe by 1.5 hours.  

Implementation of the project will contribute to increasing of tourist flow, which will bring new opportunities to the local population.
