Assignment Title:  Bridge Specialist

Georgia has received financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the Forth East-West Highway Improvement Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, and related services and consulting services to be procured under this project, which will be jointly financed by the Government of Georgia.

The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (RDMRDI) now invites Individual Consultants (Consultants) to express their interest in providing the following services: Bridge Engineer. 

The objective of the assignment is to (i) review and analyze of parameters for bridge crossings and bridges (about 94 with total length around 15 km for both ways of carriageway), options for main structural elements recommended by feasibility study of the E-60 highway Zemo Osiauri – Argveta (4-lanes) section developed for the preferable alignment; (ii) prepare special expert reports for Draft Final and Final Feasibility Study Reports.

Particularly, the Expert is expected to:

1. Provide in-depth study and analysis of the proposed layout of the bridges, overpasses, viaducts etc. and confirm the correctness of their location (including site visits);
2. Correctness of the bridge length and clearance;
3. Layout of regulation structures in plan;
4. Compliance of the bridge carriageway parameters with the effective standards;
5. Compliance of proposed bridge schemes and main structural elements (superstructure, piers, foundation, etc.) with the appropriate standards;
6. Check the calculations used;
7. Compliance of construction equipment, materials and technologies considered by the Project with the modern requirements.

The estimated duration of assignment is 3 months.

Interested individuals shall provide information demonstrating that they have the necessary experience to perform the aforesaid services. CVs of the candidates should cover experience in relevant to the project activities.

A consultant will be selected in accordance with the “Selection of Individual Consultants” procedures set out in World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants [under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits & Grants] by World Bank Borrowers , January 2011 (“Consultant Guidelines”) on the basis of substantial responsiveness of the best evaluated CV with respect to compliance with technical and other related aspects specified in the Terms of Reference.  

Required Qualification of the Consultant:

-         At least 15 years of post-graduate experience, including 10 years of international experience in Bridge design and feasibility study assignments;

-         At least 2 feasibility studies in mountain area;

-         High level computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office).

-         Excellent communication skills in English including well-developed report-writing skills.
