According to the information of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, construction works are currently underway on all 51 tunnels on the Ricoti pass road, which is divided into 4 sections, which is part of the East-West E60 highway. Among them, 34 tunnels have already been cut, of which 3 have been put into operation. Works are being carried out simultaneously on 90 bridges, of which 40 have already been built, and 6 completed bridges are already being used by motor vehicles.

A 4-lane road with a total length of 51.6 km is being built at Rikoti Pass, which includes 97 bridges and 51 tunnels. The first, 2 km two-lane, Khevi-Ubisa section was opened for traffic in September 2021. The newly opened road section includes 6 bridges and 3 tunnels.

The construction of the Rikoti Pass section is the project of the century, which is completed on the most difficult geographical route, with the most difficult engineering constructions. The Rikoti section will be a turning point in the construction of the high-speed road, since as a result of this project, the high-speed sections already built in eastern and western Georgia will be connected to each other. The speed of movement on the Rikoti section, which is currently 60 km/h, will be increased and almost doubled on some sections. In addition, the new road takes into account all modern road safety standards.

More than 4,000 people are currently employed on the construction of the Rikoti Pass road, and approximately 68% of the employees are Georgian citizens.

Within the framework of the Rikoti pass road construction project, a space will be created where the population of nearby villages will be able to sell their products under the conditions of proper infrastructure. In particular, shopping areas will be organized in the following locations: Surami, Shrosha and Zestafoni.

The construction works of the Ricoti pass section, the total cost of which is up to 2.6 billion GEL, will be completed gradually by the end of 2023. Certain sections are planned to be put into operation at the end of this year.
