"The construction of the Abastumni bypass road, as well as the rehabilitation of the Baghdati-Abastumani road, are going on at a high pace. In addition to safe and comfortable movement, the project is important for the development of Abastumani. As a result of the construction of this road, transit transport will no longer run on the Abastumani-Sairme road, which provides an opportunity for the full development of the resort," said the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, after visiting the ongoing construction works of the Abastumani bypass road.

The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia continues the construction of the 16 km bypass road of Abastumani. The drilling of the 368-meter tunnel is already underway at a depth of 270 meters.

The construction of a bypass road will relieve the unique resort from traffic. In a new way, not only the ecological condition of the township will be preserved, but also the connection between two regions - Imereti and Samtskhe-Javakheti. The cost of the project is more than 44.7 million GEL.

Abastumani bypass road project Continuation of the reconstruction project of the Baghdadi-Abastumani connecting road, which, along with increasing the quality of road safety, reduces the travel distance and time from the central part of Georgia to the Turkish border (Vale).

"Construction of the bypass road will be completed by the end of 2023, according to the schedule, and more than 20 km of the Baghdati-Abastumani road will be paved this year. In the end, as a result of the construction of the mentioned road, it will be possible to travel from Kutaisi Airport to Abastumani in 2.5 hours instead of 4 hours, which will significantly contribute to the development of the connection between the regions, as well as the increase in the flow of tourists," Irakli Karseladze noted.

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure is also conducting construction works of a parking lot for up to 770 vehicles at the entrance of Abastumani. The parking lot is provided, among others, for electric cars and buses.
