After the completion of the project, the travel time from Kutaisi Airport to Abastumani will be reduced by 1.5 hours and the journey will take 2.5 hours instead of 4 hours.

At this stage, the 10 km section has been completed, in 2022, as well as the construction of the 17 km section is planned to be completed, intensive works are underway on the remaining sections as well.

"The Baghdati-Abastumani road project is historic in its significance, as it connects Imereti and Samtskhe-Javakheti. This is a road that will make it safe to get from Kutaisi International Airport to Abastumani in just 2.5 hours. The road will fully meet the standard, the appropriate width is provided - 7-meter shoulders, which in two-lane road conditions, allows smooth movement with its parameters, "- said the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure during the construction of the Baghdati-Abastumani road.

The 4 km section of the road currently passes through the Abastumani gorge, where residential and household buildings are mainly located along the road, therefore, in order to maintain and improve the ecological condition of the resort, the construction of the 16 km bypass road of Abastumani has started.

The project is an integral part of the Baghdad-Abastumani road rehabilitation-reconstruction project, the construction of which is scheduled for completion in 2022.

Completion of the Baghdati-Abastumani road as a whole is planned in stages for 2023-2024.
