Rehabilitation of the Streets of Zugdidi City Actively Progressing

Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, under the order of the government of Georgian is rehabilitating secondary roads of the city of Zugdidi.

A total of 67 streets of the city of Zugdidi were under rehabilitation since 2019. Out of them, rehabilitation works were completed at 40 streets. The works are actively progressing at the remaining 27 streets. The overall budget of the mentioned project amounts to GEL 68.7 million, total length is 77.3 km.

Among other streets, the works are already completed at central streets of the city, i.e. Aghmashenebeli, Sokhumi, Rustaveli and Beria, which have very high traffic intensity. Overall length of these streets is 10.7km and the cost amounted to GEL 10.8 million.

Existed asphalt-concrete pavement at the streets of Zugdidi was severely damaged and the pavement virtually did not exist. Moving at the streets was difficult, both during dry weather due to dust and rainy weather, when movement became especially difficult.

In order to crack an existed problem the project envisages complete rehabilitation of the streets of Zugdidi. In particular, asphalt-concrete pavements will be constructed on the carriageways, drainage network will be upgraded, junctions, local entrances, entrances to residents’ yards, curbs, grassplots and sidewalks will be arranged. The project will ensure safe, comfortable movement within the city of Zugdidi and allow to save travel time and costs.
