Road reconstruction in the direction of Shatili is one of the most significant projects among the projects ongoing in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, which is a part of Sno-Juta-Roshka-Shatili-Omalo-Khadori Gorge-Batsara-Akhmeta road construction under Mountain Roads Project. Works ongoing under Mountain Roads Project in the direction of  Barisakho-Shatili are divided into 7 lots (km52-km106), which covers rehabilitation of 54 km of road with the total value GEL 21 367 426.

The project aims to make access road to Shatili much safer, since the existing road is a soil road, landslides are frequent and it is practically impossible to bypass 2 vehicles.  

It should be mentioned that rehabilitation of 18 km long road (km33-km51) has already been completed in the direction of Shatili. Also, rehabilitation of 16 km long section (km16-km32) is actively progressing with the financial support of the World Bank.

In total, 86 km of road will be rhabilitated, 17 bridges will be constructed and 5  bridges will be rehabilitated in the direction of Shatili within the scope of 12 projects. More than GEL 59 will be spent on impelementation of those projects.

Upon completion of the road rehabilitation, the road parameters will be improved, the carriageway will be widened, guardrails will be arranged and movement will be much safer and more comfortable.
