Road Projects Budget to Exceed GEL 1,315 Billion in 2020

The budget of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia to exceed ₾ 1,315 billion in 2020. Together with highways, significant sum will be spent on regional and mountain road projects.

Next year, active construction works will continue on all four lots of Rikoti Pass Road, and a large-scale project of Kvesheti-Kobi road will be commenced, for which the contracts on both lots were already awarded.

The 13km four-lane cement-concrete highway of Khashuri bypass will be completed in July 2020, as well as the construction of the second 18 km section of Samtredia-Grigoleti road, and the traffic will be resumed on the 14km section, which will allow to bypass the most densely populated section of the road.

Construction of a new two lanes at 41km Kutaisi bypass-Samtredia highway is planned to be commenced next year. The project worth ₾ 200 million will provide a two-line safe traffic in this direction and will unload traffic in Kutaisi city.

In addition to highways, in 2020 a total of 600 km of secondary roads will be rehabilitated and periodically repaired.

Within the framework of the Self-Government Support Program, infrastructure projects in the total amount of ₾ 150 million are envisaged in Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Poti, Khobi, Ninotsminda, Lagodekhi and other municipalities.

This year, the budget of the Roads Department amounted to GEL 1 302 million, which is 3.5 times more than the budget of 2012 and 8% more than the budget of the previous year.
