Construction of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe bypass road (Bakurtsikhe-Gurjaani) started

Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia carries out the construction of a 15.5 km bypass section of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe (Bakurtsikhe-Gurjaani) road.

The 15.5 section of Gurjaani-Bakurtsikhe bypass road will connect Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi international (the border of the Republic of Azerbaijan) road with Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe secondary road. If it is not necessary, vehicles will bypass the town of Gurjaani and the following villages of Gurjaani municipality: Bakurtsikhe, Kolagi, Dzirkoki, Chandari, Vejini and Chumlaki.

At this stage, the construction of a 7 km section of Gurjaani bypass road of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe road is underway.

Within the project, carriageway will be rehabilitated, culverts, artificial structures, road pavement, bus stop, junctions with local roads and entrances to private yards will be arranged.

The project will improve safety and quality of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe local road connecting with Tbilisi. Improvement of roads in Kakheti region is a very important process, since in this region agriculture is highly developed and it has a great tourist potential.

The project is being carried out with the financial support of the World Bank within the Third Secondary and Local Roads Project and its cost is GEL 38 000 000. Works started this year and will be completed in 2018.

Construction of Bakurtsikhe-Gurjaani bypass road is a part of spatial arrangement of 4-point plan of the country’s development.
