Under the E60 East-West Highway Improvement Project, the Roads Department has signed the agreement with the Italian company „IRD ENGINEERING”, which is a winner of the supervision bidding for construction works on a 14 km section of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti (eastern portal of Rikoti Pass).

Deputy Chairman of the Roads Department Maia Kaliashvili and Director of „IRD ENGINEERING” Paolo Orsini signed the agreement.

The cost of supervision service is USD 4 964 791 and GEL 3 643 680. Construction of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti section is being carried out with the financial support of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB).

Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti section is a part of spatial development of the country, one of the directions from the 4-point Governmental reform plan, initiated by Prime Minister George kvirikashvili.

Under the Project: a four-lane cement concrete road, 21 bridges, 5 tunnels, reinforced concrete underpasses, culverts and drainage systems will be constructed.

Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti 14 km road goes to the Rikoti Pass tunnel. In this way, it would be possible to bypass Khashuri, Surami, Chumateleti from the north and come to the Rikoti tunnel.
