Press conference was held about the situation existing on roads

Nugzar Gasviani, Acting Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia held a press conference at the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure about the situation created on motor roads of the country.

Information about the situation existing on roads was provided to media at press conference.

Movement is complicated throughout the country due to difficult meteorological conditions. It is snowing heavily in Adjara, Guria and Kakheti today.

About 100 depots operate throughout the country wherein relevant services with human resources, machinery and reserve of technical salt are mobilized.

Cleaning works are progressing during 24 hours. Representatives of Supervision Unit of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia carry out on-site coordination and monitoring of ongoing cleaning works.

By this time special restrictions are established throughout the country due to intense snow and low temperature:

Traffic is restricted on Gudauri-Kobi section due to avalanche hazard;
Traffic is restricted for trailers and semi-trailers on: Rikoti pass, Nakerala pass, Tbilisi bypass road and Choloki bridge-Sarpi section.
Movement on Mleta-Gudauri section and Gombori pass is allowed by application of antiskid chains.

In view of created circumstances, Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia urges population to use winter tyres, technically acceptable vehicles and follow traffic restrictions established on roads.
