According to the information provided by Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, intensive rains raised water level of Chkhara River that resulted in damaging of road at km206 of Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze International road. The road is closed for safety reasons. Traffic is diverted to Zestaponi-Baghdati- Kutaisi road. Movement for trailers and semi-trailers is forbidden.
Mentioned section is used as a temporary bypass road due to construction of the highway and disaster has damaged it again.
At present, it is raining heavily in the disaster area. Representatives of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia are on-site. Once the water level is reduced, the works for restoration of damaged road section and elimination of disaster outcomes will start immediately.
