Statement of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure
on the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi Road Section
 
Four land slips have occurred on the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi (VGT) road along the section between kilometer marks 40+200 – 41+800.The road has been partly damaged due to these land slips. Extra signs and protective barriers have been installed on each section to provide safety for the road users. The VGT road remains open for traffic and passable
 
Project Facts
Overallcost for the Kakheti Regional Roads Improvement Project is $ 37.5 million, out of which $24 million is being spent for the construction of the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi road. The objective of the Project is to reduce transport costs and improve access and traffic safety for the Kakheti regional roads.
 
The Gombori-Telavi section of the VGT road is known to be prone to land slips. These land slips are caused by unstable mountain slopes resulting in continuous soil movement in specific areas. This has also historically affected local houses and created landscape typical of land slips. The Government is fully aware of a land slip area affecting the road.
