“The city’s central street has sustained severe damage. At this moment, the Ministry of Infrastructure and all relevant agencies are fully mobilized. Every responsible service is actively involved. We are doing everything possible to eliminate the consequences of the disaster in Telavi as quickly as possible and restore the city to its normal rhythm of life. Looking ahead, we will conduct a thorough assessment of what happened and implement all necessary preventive measures to minimize the impact of similar disasters in the future,” Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze said after inspecting the disaster-affected areas in Kakheti.
Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili, and Minister of Regional Development Kakhaber Guledani visited the disaster zone in Telavi following the severe weather that struck the area last night.
The ministers inspected the affected areas on site and received updates from representatives of the relevant agencies on the ongoing emergency response operations and the current situation.
Also present in the disaster zone were Chairman of the Roads Department Levan Darakhvelidze and representatives of the Roads Department, Members of Parliament Irakli Kadagishvili and Gela Samkharauli, who, together with local authorities and emergency services, assessed the condition of the damaged road infrastructure.
The Roads Department has mobilized up to 70 units of heavy machinery, including Bobcats, dump trucks, graders, and excavators, to support the emergency response operations. In coordination with the Disaster Response Headquarters, the equipment is being deployed to the locations where it is needed most.
The relevant agencies continue to carry out intensive emergency response operations to restore the damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible and minimize disruption for the local population.
Emergency response works are continuing around the clock. Under the coordination of the local authorities and the Disaster Response Headquarters, the responsible agencies are clearing roads, restoring damaged infrastructure, and ensuring safe travel for residents.
