“Today, we inspected ongoing road works and disaster recovery processes in Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi. We visited the entrance to Oni, where landslide processes have developed. We are actively working to ensure that the necessary works begin as soon as possible and that traffic movement becomes safe. At the same time, a temporary alternative road is being arranged to allow the local population to move without interruption during the construction period,” stated Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze following his inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Racha and Imereti.

Together with representatives of the Roads Department, the Ministry of Regional Development, and local authorities, the Minister inspected ongoing road rehabilitation works, restoration of sections damaged by natural disasters, and landslide mitigation measures.

In Sachkhere Municipality, Revaz Sokhadze visited the rehabilitation sections of the Gomi–Sachkhere–Chiatura–Zestafoni road, where rehabilitation works covering nearly 28 km are underway. The project includes the full rehabilitation of road infrastructure, installation of road safety elements, drainage systems, and retaining walls.

“We inspected the ongoing road works in Sachkhere. We have certain issues with one of the contractors, and due to existing delays, the works have fallen behind schedule. Specific deadlines have been set for the contractor. In case of failure to fulfill the obligations, appropriate measures will be taken,” Sokhadze stated.

Landslide mitigation and restoration works on sections damaged by natural disasters are also underway on the Sachkhere (Sareki)–Uzunta–Shkmeri–Zudali road. The projects include the construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls and pile walls to ensure slope stabilization and safe traffic movement.

In Oni Municipality, the Minister inspected stabilization works related to landslide processes developed near the town of Oni, as well as the construction project of a new bridge and access roads over the Rioni River, which will connect the new Sachkhere–Racha road with the Kutaisi (Choma)–Alpana–Mamisoni road.

The Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of a temporary road near the village of Kursebi, which is being arranged to ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic movement on the section damaged by natural disasters. According to the Minister, due to the landslide processes developed in Kursebi, a temporary road is being arranged there as well, while the design of a permanent road has already commenced, which will permanently serve the population of Tkibuli Municipality.
