Rehabilitation works are actively underway on a 14-kilometer section (km 44–km 57) of the Tianeti–Akhmeta–Kvareli–Ninigori road.

The rehabilitation section is located within the municipalities of Akhmeta and Telavi. The road begins to the east of the village of Kvemo Alvani in Akhmeta Municipality, passes through the villages of Laliskuri and Pshaveli, and ends to the east of the village of Jughaani.

The Tianeti–Akhmeta–Kvareli–Ninigori road connects the Kakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions and represents the shortest route linking Pshav-Khevsureti and Kazbegi. The rehabilitation of the road is important both for socio-economic development and for enhancing the tourism potential of the valley.

The existing road was significantly damaged and hindered mobility under increased traffic volumes.

The project implies full rehabilitation of the road infrastructure, including the renewal of the carriageway, installation of drainage pipes and side ditches, construction of bus stop shelters, access points to residential yards, and installation of road signs. Two bridges—over the Takhtibogiri Gorge and the Stori River—will be rehabilitated, while a new bridge will be constructed over the Chechakviskhevi River. Horizontal road markings will also be applied.

At this stage, asphalt paving has been completed. Works are ongoing on the installation of drainage systems—including gutters and ditches—as well as the development of a public square in Kvemo Alvani.

The project is financed from the state budget, with a total value of GEL 17,747,422. Completion of the works is scheduled for August 2026.
