Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, together with the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund Beka Urushadze, Chairman of the Roads Department Levan Darakhvelidze, Member of Parliament Ilia Injia, representatives of the local authorities, and Director of “Enguri Attraction” Nikoloz Antidze, inspected the condition of the cable-stayed bridge over the Magana River in the town of Jvari, Tsalenjikha Municipality.
The Ministry of Infrastructure will begin work on a project for the rehabilitation of the bridge and its development as a tourist attraction.
The 80-meter-long historic pedestrian bridge was constructed in 1931–1932 and is currently damaged. Until the 1960s, prior to the construction of a new bridge by the builders of Enguri HPP, it served as a vital connection between Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti. Following the construction of the new bridge, it retained only a pedestrian function.
On September 10, 2025, the bridge was granted the status of a cultural heritage monument. The site continues to attract interest from both local and international tourists.
The bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge in the former Soviet Union — a type of suspension bridge whose pylons are connected to the bridge deck by steel cables (stays).
