    Chairman of Roads Department is carrying out  monitoring of road sections

    Mr. Zakaria Khundzakishvili, Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia, is conducting site-visits in order to monitor ongoing projects. Within the scope of site-visits, he inspected work progress on Kutaisi bypass road and Kutaisi bypass -Samtredia road.

    Kutaisi bypass road (length 17.3 km)

    Construction works on Kutaisi bypass road are actively progressing.

    At this stage, construction of concrete pavement on 4 km long section of respective road (km13.1-km17.3) is completed and works are proceeding.

    Bridges over the river Rioni and river Chishura are being constructed concurrently. Currently, 160 piles for Rioni bridge and 16 piles for Chishura bridge are drilled and arranged.

    At the same time construction of Kutaisi-Geguti overpass is commenced whereon  drilling works and  construction of piles are underway.

     Kutaisi bypass road – Samtredia section (length 25.7 km)

    Construction works on Kutaisi bypass road – Samtredia section entered into an active phase. At this stage, construction of road base (arrangement of embankment and compaction) is ongoing at km0-km8 and km14-km18 of respective road.

    Simultaneously, construction of artificial structures - reinforced concrete box culverts is in progress. By that time, construction of 4 culvers is completed, but various construction works are being performed on 4 culverts.

    Slope stabilization works for portals of Gori Tunnel are ongoing

     

    Slopes stabilization works for East and West portals of Gori Tunnel located at km88 of Tbilisi-Senaki - Leselidze road are in progress.

    Mentioned works are implemented in order to maintain slopes in stable condition and ensure safety.

    Slope stabilization measures: soil backfilling and compaction to 30-35 cm layers; installation of  geosynthetic grids - paragrids on every one meter height for strengthening soil stability; stabilization of front facade of slopes by geosynthetic  grids and landscaping through hydro seeding  - “green teramishi” technology.  

    Respective works started in December 2012 and will be completed by the end of April 2013.

    Construction of protective walls for the river Liakhvi 

     

    Construction of concrete protective walls over the river Liakhvi located on km 85 of Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze road is underway. The purpose of protective walls is regulation of stream direction in order to prevent piers scour in case of inundation.

    Total length of reinforced concrete wall is 315 m, height is 5 m. Bank protection on both sides is carried out by tetrapods and riprap (total length is 170 running meters).

    By this time construction of reinforced concrete and concrete piles on left embankment is almost completed. Currently, works related to arrangement of concrete slabs for piles and concrete pouring are in progress. Also, reinforcement of concrete wall, mould casting and concrete pouring have been started.

    Construction started in December 2012 and will be completed by the end of April 2013.
