Today, construction of Service and Rest Areas has been started for the first time in Georgia. Mr. David Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia and Mr. Soso Pkhakadze, Chairman of Supervisory Board of JSC Wissol Petroleum Georgia and other partners will attend commencement of construction works at adjacent territory of Gori Interchange of E-60 highway.


Project envisages construction recreation zone, tourist information centers, trade zones and fast food public restaurants, fuel station, car service station, bus stations and car parking, filling stations and sanitary-prophylactic facilities. In the developed and some developing countries, such type of service and rest facilities form an integral part of the entire modern highway system. 


For the prospective development of Georgian main international-transportation function and highways of the country, it is planned to develop service and rest areas along the entire E-60 highway (together with the E-70), also at border crossings and other important highways, thus will promote to the development of the country’s infrastructure.


JSC Wissol will finish main part of construction works in autumn. Roads Department of Georgia signed the contract with JSC Wissol, winner of the competition, on 22 March 2010.
