Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia will inspect rehabilitated sections at km 14 of Chalaubani-Signagi-Anaga road and km 1 of access road to St. Nino Monastery, which were damaged as a result of landslide. Walls (gabions) were built by application of new technology.

Rehabilitation works considered erection of Terashim system walls (gabions) by sand and gravel soil, provision of concrete conduits for deep horizontal drainage and surface waters. In addition, it implied construction of asphalt pavement on respective section.

Terashim system
Terashim system is widely used in various countries of Europe. Terramesh® System is a versatile modular system used for soil reinforcement applications such as mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls; reinforced slope systems (RSS) and soil reinforcement. Terramesh® structures rely upon the steel mesh placed horizontally within the slope with backfill compacted upon it. The gabion type facing element of the Terramesh® System is fully integrated with the steel mesh reinforcement and is dependent upon the final use of the structure.

Advantages of Terramesh:
• Flexibility, enabling the structure to tolerate differential ground settlement without compromising structural integrity
• Ease of construction
• Significant soundproofing characteristics (18-28 decibel)
• Structural safety in case of fire near the front face

Value of works financed under the State budget amounts to 1 mln. 300 thousand GEL. Works were performed by Georgian construction company “Sagzao Technika” Ltd.
