Mr. Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia, Mr. David Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Chairman of Roads Department will open 25 km long section of Igoeti-Sveneti road.

Upgrading of both directions of mentioned 25 km long section with cement-concrete pavement and construction of RHS Igoeti and Lekhura bridges are completed.  80km long road starting from Natakhtari now is connected to Gori.   Traffic movement will become more comfortable once the road is opened, that is especially important given the increased traffic flow.

Bridge in village Igoeti:
Number of spans – 7
Total Length of the bridge – 195
Bridge carriageway – 11, 5

Bridge over the river Lekhura
Number of spans – 4
Total Length of the bridge – 115
Bridge carriageway – 11, 5

Construction of E-60 highway was implemented by application of new technology – cement-concrete pavement – that is tested and approved in many developed countries and is distinguished by particular firmness and is environmentally friendly. It has long lasting operational period and within 30-35 years the road does not require any rehabilitation works. It is profit-proved as vehicles consume 10 % less fuel while driving on such type of pavement (according to the World Bank Experts’ conclusion). Upgrading of E-60 highway to the four-lane highway will increase competitiveness against other alternative transit routes.

Highway Parameters:
• Number of lanes  -  4 lanes
• Max. longitudinal slope  4 %
• Width of one-way carriageway   11,5 m
• Min. width of median lane    5.0 m
• Width of the traffic lanes   3,75 m
• Design speed    120 km/h

It should be mentioned that construction of 15km long section of Sveneti-Ruisi is proceeding. Modernization-construction of Sveneti-Ruisi section is the most complicated and large-scaled project in the history of road network construction in Georgia. It includes almost all type of road structures. It is one of the major projects in Transcaucasia.
