Hi-tech communication control point started operation in Gori tunnel

Roads Department purchased hi-tech communication control systems for tunnels under the World Bank financing. Control points were arranged at Gori and Rikoti Tunnels and all electro-mechanical systems existing in tunnels are operated through computer programs from control points.   Today, Deputy Chairman George Amashukeli inspected operation process of new control points and wished success to the personnel.

Control points are equipped with thermal sensors that enable monitoring of concentration of toxic gas and its neutralization through special technologies. Sensors can instantly detect fire and control fire fighting activities in automatic mode (direct water flow to fire from the water tank existing in the tunnel). Also, sensors can detect other problems and solve them in a timely manner.

Video cameras installed in tunnels are controlled from the points. Changing of angel in all directions and enlarging the radius of screening is managed by remote control.

Respective control point is already operating near Gori tunnel, wherein 21 personnel are employed. 10-days study course for the personnel was provided by Turkish Company ULTRA.

Control point of Rikoti Tunnel will start operation in early November, wherein 22 personnel would be employed. Training courses for the staff will be provided in late October.

Construction works of both control points were implemented by “Lochini” Ltd under the World Bank financing.
