Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has attended the commencement of construction of Adjara Bypass road. Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is implementing construction works. 


The first phase of construction of Adjara bypass road considers construction of one of its segments – 12,4 km long Kobuleti bypass road. Asphalt – concrete pavement will be laid on respective road section. Railroad overpass, 3 interchanges, 5 bridges and crossovers over 5 dry ravines will be constructed.  Artificial structures, retaining walls, drainage systems and appropriate infrastructure will be arranged.  Currently earthworks and removing of topsoil are underway.  Kobuleti bypass starts near the village Natanebi (Ozurgeti district), then it passes through the village Ochkhamuri and ends in Makhinjauri.

The road is very important; as the finalization of construction will unload resort Kobuleti from transit traffic, thus will promote to improvement of ecological conditions in the resort city and enable comfortable movement for tourists. 
Along with construction of Kobuleti bypass road, the project envisages modernization of 2,3 km long Chakvi-Makhinjauri 2 lane road into 4 lane highway.


Adjara bypass project considers construction of Batumi bypass road as well, commencement of which is planned in the nearest future.
Construction of Kobuleti bypass road and modernization of Chakvi - Makhindjauri road is financed by Asian Development Bank and the value of the project amounts to GEL 114.5 million. Directly or indirectly, about 1000 people are involved into the project, out of which 70 % are locals. Chinese road construction company “Sinohydro” is the winner of the bidding and the contract was signed today, before commencement of construction activities.
