Construction of a new 70 m long bridge over the river Mtkvari is in progress. The respective bridge is located near Khertvisi-Vardzia road in Aspindza district. The bridge will assist to connect local residents and tourists with Vardzia Monastery Complex.
Currently, construction of bridge piers is completed and installation of beams is underway. Asphalt-concrete pavement will be laid on the bridge deck, which width is 13 meters; sidewalks and railings will be provided; simultaneously, construction of retaining wall is ongoing, which is located on the approach road, thus will ensure safe traffic movement.  
Before erecting a new bridge, local residents had to use an old and weather-beaten bridge that was dangerous for their lives. After finalization of a new bridge, the old one would be dismantled. Residents of borough Aspindza and 8 villages (Mirashkhani, Tmogvi, Idumala, Dzveli, Nakalakevi, Sakhudabeli, Niala and Orgora) will use the new bridge. The project is implemented by the coordination of the Ministry of Regional Development and infrastructure of Georgia and is financed by Millennium Challenge GeorgiaFund (MCG).  60 people are employed by the project and most of them are locals.
Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has personally inspected construction works today.
