The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is actively conducting construction works on the second section of the Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti road, which is part of the E-60 East-West expressway.

Construction of a 6.4 km 4-lane road, 11 bridges and 5 tunnels is planned for the mentioned section. The project is implemented with financial support of up to 265 million GEL from the World Bank.

At this stage, works are being carried out on 8 bridges and 5 tunnels, of which 4 bridges have already been built.

The second section of the Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti road is a continuation of the 13-km Khashuri bypass road already in operation. Khashuri bypass significantly relieved the city of Khashuri from traffic jams, and transit traffic was completely transferred to the new road. The travel time through the Khashuri bypass road has been halved.

The second section of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti bypasses Surami and Chumateleti and passes by the main tunnel of Ricoti. With this section, the Khashuri bypass road will be connected to the Rikoti pass road.

The construction of the Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti road includes a 14-km 4-lane cement-concrete road, 23 bridges, 5 tunnels, reinforced concrete underground passages, water pipes and drainage systems.
