Reconstruction of Khulo-Zarzma section of Batumi-Akhaltsikhe secondary road is underway. The project is divided into 3 sections and a total of 47 kilometers of road and 7 bridges are being rehabilitated.

Due to the heavy snowfall and difficult meteorological conditions, the work on this section, which runs through high mountains, is associated with difficulties. Contractor companies have cleared several meters of snow on the road to resume work. In addition, during the works, the contractor companies must ensure the permeability of the vehicles so that they can reach the settlements. Cleaning works are underway on the access road to the resort Beshuma.

In parallel with the road cleaning works, the companies are mobilizing equipment and rehabilitating the works.

As part of the Khulo-Zarzma road reconstruction project, two-lane asphalt-concrete pavement will be laid. The section up to 5 km is financed by the state budget and its cost is 14.6 million. GEL. And the 42 km section is funded by the Kuwait Fund.

The renewed Khulo-Zarzma road will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions with the shortest way. The rehabilitation section starts from Khulo, will pass Goderdzi pass and will reach Zarzma village of Adigeni. During the renewed route, travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe will be reduced by 1.5 hours.

After the implementation of the project, the tourist flow will increase, which will create new opportunities for the local population.
