The Rikoti Pass Road, which is divided into 4 sections, is currently undergoing parallel and intensive construction work on 88 bridges and 51 tunnels.

16 tunnels have been cut from 51 tunnels. Construction works have already been completed on 3 tunnels and 6 bridges.

The traffic on the first, 2 km two-lane, ravine-Ubisa section of the road was opened in September 2021. The newly opened road section includes 6 bridges and 3 tunnels.

A total of 51.6 km of road is being built on Rikoti Pass, including 97 bridges and 51 tunnels. The construction of the Rikoti Pass section is divided into 4 sections: Chumateleti-Khevi 11.6 km section, Khevi-Ubisa 12.2 km section, Ubisa-Shorapan 13 km section and Shorapani-Argveta 14.7 km section.

The modernization of Rikoti is important for the development of the country's road network and bringing it in line with modern standards. The new road meets all modern standards of road safety. Construction work is underway on the most difficult geographical route and with the most difficult engineering structures.

After the completion of the construction of the new Rikoti road, the speed of travel, which is currently 60 km / h, will increase and almost double in some sections. More than 4,000 people are currently employed on road construction and about 68% of the employees are Georgian citizens.

The construction of the Rikoti Pass section, with a total cost of up to GEL 2.6 billion, will be completed in stages by 2024. The commissioning of certain sections is already planned for the end of the current year.
