We would like to respond to the incorrect and incomplete information spread by several TV companies today regarding the rehabilitation works of the Sajavakho-Chokhatauri-Ozurgeti-Kobuleti secondary road (Nasakirali Pass) and to provide the population with correct and complete information about the ongoing project in Guria.

The Roads Department of Georgia, with the financial support of the World Bank, is rehabilitating the roads in the Guria region. The total length of the rehabilitation road sections is 62 km, and the project budget is 58.5 million GEL.

The project envisages complete rehabilitation of roads, which includes works such as replacement of the road foundation, arrangement of drainage systems, construction of artificial structures and retaining walls, laying of asphalt-concrete pavement.

On the 8.5 km section of the Sajavakho-Chokhatauri-Ozurgeti-Kobuleti secondary road (Nasakirali Pass), which is a part of the project, 80% of retaining walls, 72% of water-permeable buildings, 50% of drainage canals and other necessary works have been built, after which the road surface will be arranged.

In addition to the above-mentioned works, a corrective layer is being applied on this section of the road and in accordance with the climatic conditions provided by the technology, the road surface will be paved with asphalt-concrete.

The contractual deadline for the completion of road rehabilitation works on the Nasakirali section is 12 months and the deadline for completion of the works is May 27, 2022.

Relevant progress is underway on the rest of the project, and the rehabilitation of the Chokhatauri section is already in the final phase - the asphalt-concrete pavement has been laid and the road marking works have been completed. The deadline for completion of works on this section is January 27 of the current year.
