Aleksandre Tevdoradze and Levan Kupatashvili, Deputy Chairmen of Roads Department, met with the population of Tskere village under construction of Kvesheti-Kobi road and tunnel. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Asian Development Bank Mission -  Shane Rosenthal and Kamel Bouhmad.

Construction-related needs and problems of the local population of Tskere village were discussed at the meeting. In addition, exhaustive replies were provided to all the questions asked by the residents.

Population requested to repair the local road connecting the villages of Beniani-Begoni and Tskere and maintain traffic as much as possible during the winter, for which the Department promised assistance to the extent possible.

In addition, it should be noted that before commencement of the construction, blasting will be simulated and vibration will be strictly monitored. Detailed description and marking of all buildings will be done in advance. If there would still any danger, temporary resettlement will be carried out, and then such buildings will be acquired or reinforced.

It is noteworthy that more than 50 meetings in respect of Kvesheti-Kobi project were held with the population in various formats.

Intensive construction works of 23 km Kvesheti-Kobi road and 9 km tunnel will commence this year.

Construction of 9 km long tunnel will be carried out for the first time in Georgia by use of Tunnel Boring Machine –TBM.  TBM is one of the most high-tech tunneling machines. The construction of the tunnel with this method significantly reduces the impact on the environment and is highly safe.

The existing Kvesheti-Kobi road passes through a difficult geographical route. Due to the heavy snowfall and avalanche hazards in winter, movement on the mentioned road is unsafe. Construction of a new road and tunnel will solve a long-standing problem and enable smooth movement of vehicles on this route at any time of the year, which, in addition to safety and timesaving, is also very important for the country from the financial standpoint
