Rehabilitation of 18 km long Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili section (km31-km51) is completed. Rehabilitated road goes along Aragvi River and ends at the entrance of Korsha village. Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili road is the only road, which connects regions with Shatili and Pirikita Khevsureti, therefore improvement of the road has utmost importance. The mentioned section has not been rehabilitated for 40 years, and the road was strongly damaged, thus impeded traffic.

18 km long road has been rehabilitated, road technical parameters have been improved, structures have been rehabilitated, road pavement has been arranged and road safety measures have been taken within the scope of the project. Works were financed from the state budget and the value is GEL 10 191 000. It should be mentioned that construction of 9 bridges is being continued on the mentioned section, cost of which is GEL 6  043 441.

Rehabilitation works in the direction of Shatili are being continued on other sections. For the time being, rehabilitation of 16 km long section (km16-km32) is actively progressing with the financial support of the World Bank and the value of works amount to GEL 13 337 082. Also rehabilitation is underway on one of the road sections under „Mountain Roads“ project, which is the part of Sno-Juta-Roshka-Shatili-Omalo-Khadori Valley-Batsara-Akhmeta road construction.

In total, 86 km of road will be rhabilitated and 15 bridges will be constructed-rehabilitated in the direction of Shatili within the scope of 12 projects. More than GEL 59 MIO shall be spent on impelementation of those projects.

The project aims to make access road to Shatili much safer, since the existing road is a soil road, landslides are frequent and it is practically impossible to bypass 2 vehicles.

Upon completion of the road rehabilitation, the road parameters in the direction of Shatili will be improved, the carriageway will be widened, guardrails will be arranged and movement will be much safer and more comfortable. Rehabilitation of the access road to Shatili will contribute to the development of the region and the full use of the tourism potential.
