Roads Department of Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia proceeds with restoration of road infrastructure damaged as a result of the disaster in Racha.

As a result of heavy rainfall, on 28-29 July, 2020, the swollen Rioni River damaged and collapsed separate ground segments at Nakieti-Shovi section of Secondary Kutaisi(Choma)-Alpana-Mamisoni Pass road, and also separate sections of Saglolo-Chiora-Ghebi secondary road and local road, thus left 12 villages of the municipality without the roadway.

Intensive disaster clean-up operations, arrangement of temporary bridge crossings at bypass roads and over the rivers resulted in premature traffic restoration for off-road vehicles to all villages, although road capital upgrade works are required to be implemented.

Under the Resolution of Georgian Government, for timely implementation of restoration works, Roads Department is authorized to procure supervision services for disaster clean-up operations, restoration works and related design works within the limited timeframes, while in special cases -  apply simplified procurement.

Restoration works would be carried out in two stages.  At the first stage – temporary measures would be taken to ensure traffic at damaged sections and urgent bank protection works, while at the next state – restoration works at the road sections damaged as a result of the disaster. Works will be completed in Spring 2021.

Restoration of roads damaged as a result of the natural disaster in Racha will be financed from the state budget with GEL 40 MIO. Part of the financing has been already allocated from the state budget, while the remaining part will be allocated in 2021.
