Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is intensively carrying out rehabilitation works of access road to Shatili.

One section of the road to be rehabilitated is the part of construction of Sno-Juta-Roshka-Shatili-Omalo-Khadori gorge-Batsara-Akhmeta road, within the scope of Mountainous Roads Project.

In parallel with Mountainous Roads Project, two rehabilitation projects are developed with the financial assistance of the World Bank, while three projects are funded from the State Budget.

Despite the geological challenges, work on the Shatili road has not actually been stopped this year.

The project aims to make access road to Shatili much safer, since an existed road is earthen, landslides often occur and it is practically impossible to bypass 2 vehicles.

Upon completion of the road rehabilitation, the road parameters in the direction of Shatili will be improved, the carriageway will be widened, rope barriers will be arranged and movement will be much safer and more comfortable. Rehabilitation of the access road to Shatili will contribute to the development of the region and the full use of the tourist potential.

In total, 86 km of road will be rehabilitated and 15 bridges will be constructed-rehabilitated within the framework of the current 12 projects in the direction of Shatili. The implementation of these projects will cost more than GEL 59 million.
