Traffic is restored for 4 villages from Oni to Utsera as a result of conducted cleaning works

Irakli Karseladze, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia and Giorgi Tsereteli, Deputy Chairman of Roads Department have been coordinating reinstatement works of damaged infrastructure in disaster zone for two days.

For the time being, bypass roads have already been arranged for two damaged sections, thus enable the heavy machinery to assess the damaged sections. Today, arrangement of bypass roads has been actively progressing at 10 identified locations, also bank protection works are ongoing, arrangement of bridge approaches and roadbed with rip-rap is underway in order to restore traffic at km 127, which is the most critical section. As a result of conducted works, traffic is restored for 4 villages from Oni to Utsera

 

“Scale of the disaster is very large, actual total length of the collapsed sections is more than 2 km, thus impede works, as only after overcoming the particular sections we are able to proceed with the works. Works are underway at 10 locations out of 15 locations, whereon access is physically possible. After restoration of km 127, we have five more critical sections and works will continue on that sections”, stated Irakli Karselade. 

 

Representatives of Roads Department: design team, road builders and bridge specialists are mobilized in disaster zone. They are working on design solution, as well as on prevention and traffic restoration plans. 

Specialists also coordinate infrastructure reinstatement works damaged as a result of disaster and disaster clean-up operations in order to implement necessary works and reinstate damaged infrastructure within the shortest time.
