Access to several villages in disaster zone will be provided by alternative road – stated Irakli Karseladze

Irakli Karseladze, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia and Giorgi Tsereteli, Deputy Chairman of Roads Department superintend disaster clean-up operations in disaster zone.

 “Scale of the disaster is very large, it is linear type thus complicates the situation, thought despite the challenges, we made our best and opened bypass road at km118 since 5 a.m. So the equipment- 12 units have been already mobilized.  2 sections are the most critical, whereon arrangement of bypass road is underway for now. About 250 m of road is collapsed and the river in this location is very aggressive”, stated Irakli Karseladze.

According to him, it will be possible to open access roads to several villages by alternative roads.

“For the time being, 12 locations are identified, whereon arrangement of temporary bridge crossings or bypass roads is underway, thus will enable us to move the machinery to the other locations. The location, where the machinery stands now and arrangement of alternative road is ongoing, will enable us to open access roads to several villages, - noted Karseladze. 

Representatives of Roads Department: design team, road builders and bridge specialists are mobilized in disaster zone. They are working on design solution, as well as on prevention plan based on the initial information.

Specialists also coordinate infrastructure reinstatement works damaged as a result of disaster and disaster clean-up operations in order to implement necessary works and reinstate damaged infrastructure within the shortest time.
