Traffic at a new 14km Japana-Lanchkhuti second section of Samtredia-Grigoleti E60 highway is now open to traffic.

The new 4-lane road, which reduces travel time by 20-30%, detours the densely populated section.

The second section of the highway will pass through Lanchkhuti town and villages of Lanchkhuti municipality: Japana, Kviani, Nigoiti and Kvemo Shukhuti in Guria region.

The project envisages the construction of a total of 4-lane asphalt-concrete road, 16 bridge crossings, including 3 transport junctions (overpasses), water pipes and underground passages.

The aim of the project is to boost the capacity of increasing traffic flows on the road of the highest intensity of international importance across the country, to ensure safe travel and uninterrupted transit traffic.

As for the first and fourth sections of Samtredia-Grigoleti road, works are being carried out intensively here. The tender procedures have started on the 3rd section.

Khashuri bypass road will be put into operation soon.

“A total of 70km of the new international highway will be open this year, which is an indicator of unprecedented progress. The construction of this section, with the support of the European Investment Bank, cost GEL 250 million, but in general, we invest a lot of money in road infrastructure because it means security, support for domestic tourism and the use of our logistical potential. Such comprehensive infrastructure projects are very important for the development of the country and therefore, despite the challenges of the pandemic, work in this direction has not stopped, the results of which we can see clearly," said Maya Tskitishvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
