Construction of 13 kilometer section of Batumi bypass road is actively progressing. Thus far, the works are underway on 17 bridges and 4 tunnels. First Deputy Minister, Chairman of Roads Department Mr. Irakli Karseladze and Head of the Adjara government, Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze inspected ongoing works on-site.

The project envisages construction of 2-lane asphalt concrete road, 19 bridge crossings, 4 interchanges, 5tunnels and 57 culverts. The new bypass road will pass through Maxinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Peria, Makhvilauri and Khelvachauri.

Nowadays, existing road passes through the tourist and residential zone, which complicates the flow of international transit traffic. As a result of project implementation, Batumi bypass road (together with Kobuleti bypass road) will fully relieve traffic in the Adjara resort zone, which will contribute to increase of transit turnover. Ecological condition will significantly change for the better.

The project, worth GEL 329 630 734 is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
