Roads Department of Georgia implements reconstruction of 50 km stretch of secondary Dzirula-Kharagauli-Moliti-Pona-Chumateleti Road. The project is divided into two 25 km long sections. For the time being, construction of structures and road pavement is underway. Asphalt-concrete pavement has been paved on a 2 km long section. At the same time, the arrangement of the gas transmission pipeline and main water is ongoing.

Rehabilitation of Dzirula-Kharagauli-Moliti-Pona-Chumateleti Road envisages arrangement of asphalt pavement; rehabilitation-upgrading of bridges, road drainage pipes, ditches; construction of retaining walls; and provision of road marking and safety barriers.

Company “Black Sea Group” implements the construction of the first section, whereon 250 Georgian citizens are employed, while the second section is being upgraded by Azerbaijan Company Akkord, whereon 68 Georgian and 11 Azerbaijani citizens are being engaged for the time being. It should be noted that the progress of works at the second section is low compared with the first section, in respect of which the Company received a warning and relevant instructions. COVID-19 situation impacted on the project and caused a delay to the progress of the works, though the Company will mobilize additional workforce in the immediate future and ensure timely completion of works.

This road section connects Kharagauli municipality to E-60 Highway. The project goes along the river Chkherimela, Dzirula, and Khashuri-Kharagauli-Zestaponi railway line. The local population has suffered the problem of movement on this road for years. As a result of road upgrading, traffic conditions will be improved for up to 23 000 residents living in Kharagauli municipality and up to 7 000 residents living in 13 villages located adjacent to the road, and they will be able to move comfortably and safely.

The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The total value of the project is GEL 105 MIO. Reconstruction of the first section will be completed by the end of 2020, while the second section- by the end of 2021.
