Recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during infrastructure works were developed

According to the order of Interagency Coordination Council chaired by the Prime-Minister and recommendations and guidelines of the Ministry of Health, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of Roads Department, Irakli Karseladze discussed recommended precautions for avoiding COVID-19 with Mr. Giorgi Chakhunashvili, Epidemiologist of National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia, which shall be followed during infrastructure works directly at the construction site in order to prevent the spread of new viruses.

“Range of recommendations were developed. Their majority have already been complied, though some issues have been clarified today and they will be provided to companies tomorrow. Fulfillment of those recommendations enables us to proceed with infrastructure projects and minimize possible risks” – stated First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of Roads Department, Irakli Karseladze.

The same day, Irakli Karseladze met with representatives of the Infrastructure Construction Companies Association (ICCA) to share recommendations with the construction sector.

As infrastructure projects continue in the usual manner and moreover, new projects have to be commenced, Infrastructure Construction Companies Association (ICCA) together with the Ministry shall ensure the sharing of recommendations and guidelines provided by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) with companies.
“It was a very important meeting related to the current situation. In the first instance, we discussed how to take care of the personnel. We shall receive additional instructions from the Ministry, which are specific to infrastructure projects. It is very essential that the field wherein the Association members are involved is the field, which is not suspended today and continue working more actively in order to minimize adverse impact on the economy under the given circumstances “ - stated Ana Sabakhtarishvli, Executive Director of ICCA.

Contractor organizations of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and its subordinate agencies shall electronically receive recommendations developed jointly with the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia. Infrastructure Construction Companies Association shall ensure provision and sharing of information with other construction companies.

Recommendations were developed for preventing virus spread during construction works.
