Giorgi Tsibadze, Deputy Chairman of the Roads Department of Georgia, together with the representatives of various divisions of the Department and engineers of the international consulting organization iRAP met with the representatives of design companies.

An ongoing pilot project of the Roads Department of Georgia, the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region was discussed during the meeting. During the meeting, the main part of the discussion was dedicated to the current program, which also discussed ways of implementing the program in Georgia and the necessary procedures. The ways of implementing the program in Georgia and the required procedures were also under discussion.

iRAP's assessment differs from traditional road traffic safety inspections. It uses drive-through survey data and retrospective video analysis to evaluate the more than 30 characteristics known to affect the four major groups of road users (vehicle passengers and drivers, motorcycle users, pedestrians and bikers) and analyzes the results of the types and causes of road accidents.

The study assesses the road safety on road network and adjacent of a specific section. iRAP's primary goal is to inspect high-risk roads or sections, determine their rates (star ratings) and develop affordable investment plans to improve existing road safety.
