Warning Issued to Ubisa-Shorapani Construction Company

First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of Roads Department, Irakli Karseladze has met with the representatives of construction and supervising companies of Ubisa-Shorapani section of Rikoti pass road. At the meeting, representatives of construction and supervising companies provided detailed information on an incident that took place in Ubisa village and received relevant guidance from the Department on improving the labor safety.

On February 14, in the early morning hours in the village of Ubisa, a tin roof of the workshop of Ubisa-Shorapani construction company – China Road and Bridge Corporation – has collapsed. An accident slightly damaged two Chinese employees of the company, while one Georgian worker has received relatively severe injuries. 

“Both a construction and supervising company provided explanations about the incident. The accident took place on a temporary building. The injured were provided on-site treatment and a Georgian citizen was taken to Kutaisi Referral Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stable. The causes of the incident are being identified. We gave a warning to the representatives of the company about the compliance with the labor safety norms. In addition, the Labor Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs of Georgia is already conducting an investigation and all those responsible will be severely punished if the deficiencies are identified. We continue to monitor on a daily basis so that any breaches can be eliminated immediately,” said Karseladze.

Upon an initiative of the Roads Department, monitoring will also be carried out at the construction site of other companies working on Rikoti pass road to ensure maximum safety and working conditions for employees.

As for the works on the Rikoti Pass section, the construction process has not been delayed and continue as scheduled and without disruptions.
