Bids submitted for Construction of Shorapani –Argveta section are opened

Bids of eligible bidders participated in international tender announced for Construction of  Shorapani –Argveta (F4) section of Rikoti pass road are opened. 12 companies submitted bids. Contract with the tender winner will be concluded by the end of 2019.

Contract scope includes construction of four-lane highway with cement-concrete pavement – total length 14.7 km, also construction of 14 bridges and 12 tunnels. Construction will be financed by Asian Development Bank.

It should be noted that contract for construction of Chumateleti-Khevi section (F1 section of Rikoti pass) was signed on August 21, while construction works are underway on F2 and F3 sections. 

Rikoti pass project envisages construction of over 51.6km road, including 96 bridges and 53 tunnels. Upgrading of Rikoti pass section is of key importance in terms of road network development and harmonization with modern standards. Upgrading of Rikoti pass shall foster the growth of road capacity and transit turnover, also improve the traffic safety level and reduce travel time. Eventually, completion of Rikoti pass road will reduce the east-west corridor by 30 kilometers, while travel time from Red bridge to Sarpi will be halved.   If today, covering the distance between Red Bridge to Sarpi takes 8 hours, in future it will need 4-4.5 hours.
