Disaster clean-up operations are actively progressing in the reverbed of Nenskra as the river overflowed its banks due to abundant rainfall in Chuberi village, Mestia Municipality.  At this stage three heavy equipment are working to expand the Nenstkra riverbed.  Upon completing riverbed widening, cleaning works will start at areas whereon a large volume of river drifts are accumulated, at some locations volume of river drifts reach to 1 meter.

Mr. Giorgi Tsereteli, Deputy Chairman of Roads Department is on site and together with other specialists of RD coordinates ongoing works.

“In spite of the fact that maximum precipitation was noticed in Nenskra River, all bank protection and disaster prevention structures arranged one year ago after natural disaster are still operating and functioning. We have just several minor damages, which does not pose a hazard to population and adjacent infrastructure. Of course, the effects of natural disaster would have deplorable results without the works implemented last year “- stated Mr. Giorgi Tsereteli.

We would like to remind you that the mountain collapsed and the river Nenskra impounded due to heavy rain last year in Chuberi village, Svaneti. Impounded water broke the stuck riverbed and swept away the houses located along the river. Several bridges existing over the river were damaged; Chuberi valley and more than 10 villages were cut from the world.
