Roads Department is constructing Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti 14km road, which is a part of E60 East- West Highway Improvement Project. The project is divided into two sections. Construction works are dynamically ongoing at the first section. As for the second section, the Department is in negotiations with the World Bank for continuing works.  

The Chairman of the Department, Irakli Karseladze and the Deputy Chairman, Levan Kupatashvili, inspected construction works at the first section.  

Construction of bridges, arrangement of embankment, landslide protection measures and replacement of electricity supply lines are underway at the first section of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti road.

Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti 14 km road goes to the Rikoti Pass tunnel. In this way, it would be possible to bypass Khashuri, Surami, Chumateleti from the north and come to the Rikoti tunnel. The mentioned section is one of the most complicated ones and envisages construction of several tunnels and bridges.

The pointed section will be continuation of Agara-Zemo Osiauri road, 5km of which will get into exploitation after completion of this project. 

Under the Project, a four-lane cement concrete road, 21 bridges, 5 tunnels, reinforced concrete underpasses, culverts and drainage systems will be constructed.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB are financing construction of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti road.
